Legal Case Manager

There are 3 positions vacant. Two are based in Sydney & one based in Melbourne.

The Legal Case Manager position provides legal and general support to Judicial Registrars. Judicial Registrars exercise judicial and statutory functions delegated by Judges or conferred by the Rules of the Federal Court (FCA) and Federal Circuit Court (FCC). Broadly, the primary areas of registrar work are mediation and case management support for judges, registrar court work including Corporations (FCA) and Bankruptcy (FCC) lists and public examinations, and other registrar work including costs (long form bills of costs estimates, confidential conferences, taxation of costs, remuneration assessments), eCourtroom substituted service applications, pro bono management and tribunal support.

The legal and general support provided by Legal Case Managers to Judicial Registrars involves assisting with the case management of matters in the registrar’s docket, liaising with parties, undertaking legal research, organising mediations and preparing case summaries for matters that the registrars are mediating or case managing, undertaking preparatory work for Court lists, including preparing detailed briefing notes on matters and supporting the registrar in Court, as required.

The Legal Case Manager may support either one or more Judicial Registrars. The support arrangements are applied flexibly in order to account for Judicial Registrar workload demands.

To be eligible for this role you must have a legal qualification. The Court may also consider applications from candidates that have concluded their law degree but have not been admitted to practice or are not practicing at present, or are in the concluding stages of completing their law degree.

Demonstrated experience in providing high level legal and general support to a legal practitioner. A legal qualification or being in the concluding stages of completing a legal qualification is required. *

Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Court’s jurisdiction, practices and procedures, or the ability to acquire such knowledge quickly and the ability to interpret and apply legal principles, rules and regulations. *

Strong research and report-writing skills. Demonstrated ability to prepare reports, briefing materials and well-drafted correspondence.*

Excellent problem solving skills and analytical skills, including the ability to work under pressure with limited direction and also be flexible and adaptable to support others in delivering strategic and operational outcomes.*

Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including the use of electronic legal resources and the ability to quickly learn and use the court’s case management systems and court room technology.*
