The Manager, Library & Information Services, undertakes the following key role responsibilities in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct:

1. Provide high level information and research library services to Judges and registry legal staff, in conjunction with the Law Courts Library (LCL) (within the NSW Department of Justice and Attorney General)

  • Consult and report to the FCA Library Committee on purchasing priorities and library issues
  • Alert judges and legal staff to new publications and developments in the library
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Law Courts Library management & staff, and provide information and support as required
  • Keep abreast of the latest legal developments of importance to the jurisdictions of the Court, and contribute to current awareness services.

2. Maintain and enhance the FCA NSW library collections and services within budget

  • Manage the maintenance of the Judges’ chambers, Floor libraries and Registry collections
  • Monitor the financial expenditure of the Sydney collection and ensure that it is within the annual allocation
  • Select and acquire new publications in accordance with the Collection Development Policy and within budget allocation

3. Providing Library training and induction for Judges and legal staff

  • Develop and deliver training sessions for Judges and Associates
  • Provide annual inductions for incoming Associates, in conjunction with LCL
  • Keep abreast of developments in legal research tools and facilitate training from outside providers/vendors

4. Leadership skills including the ability to foster team and individual performance.

  • Maintain a productive and harmonious work team in accordance with sound management principles
  • Lead and motivate staff

5. Contribute to the strategic and business objectives of the organisation

  • Complete important projects and tasks within the agreed time frames
  • Participate in regular national Library team meetings
  • Regularly report to the National Library Manager on the operation of the NSW FCA Library
  • Evaluate new technology as a mechanism for improving the delivery of library and information services and better utilisation of resources nationally
  • Maintain regular liaison with relevant professional bodies and associations in the library and information sector e.g. ALIA, ALLA, AGLIN, AIJA Court Librarians
