The Federal Court of Australia is searching for a highly qualified and specialised senior executive to undertake the role of Chief Executive Officer and Principal Registrar.
The Chief Executive Officer and Principal Registrar is responsible for:
- assisting the Chief Justice with the management of administrative affairs of the Court
- assisting the President with the management of administrative affairs of the National Native Title Tribunal, and
- providing corporate service functions to the Federal Court of Australia, Family Court of Australia, Federal Circuit Court of Australia and the National Native Title Tribunal.
Key challenges of the role:
- Assist the Chief Justice to establish and shape the Court’s objectives and strategies.
- Communicate objectives and strategies and promote cohesion among the Court’s judges and staff.
- Ensure resources are negotiated and deployed to achieve the objectives of the Court and Corporate Services.
- Establish and maintain governance structures to ensure transparency, efficiency and accountability.
- Create a culture of achievement and establish, communicate and maintain high performance standards including professionalism, rigor and transparency.
- Work closely with other Federal Courts and Tribunals to maximise service to clients and achieve cost savings.
- Maintain and promote the Court’s local and international reputation.
- Anticipate, plan and implement change, having regard to wider local and international developments and provide leadership in identifying and addressing critical issues.
- Maintain relationships with stakeholders including the Government, other courts, the legal profession and other agencies.
- Maintain and develop communication and consultative processes to ensure staff and stakeholders are consulted about changes that affect them.
- Exemplify and maintain standards of professionalism, commitment and probity.
- Foster a culture of appropriate risk management, accountability and transparency.
Key requirements of the role:
- Advanced legal qualifications and knowledge of the workings of the Federal Court of Australia and the National Court Framework.
- Advanced knowledge of the three Courts and the National Native Title Tribunal, and a proven capacity to work well with judges, inspiring their confidence and ensuring that the needs of the courts are never compromised.
- Advanced senior management experience, including a significant understanding of the Public Sector and experience in dealing with government agencies.
- Demonstrated capacity to work across all corporate service areas, with a strong collegial reputation and a proven record of motivating and encouraging staff.
- Advanced communication, presentation and representation skills.
- Highly advanced strategic, analytical and change management skills.
- Experience and understanding in how technology can make the administration of justice more graceful for court users.
